The Office of Laboratory Animal Care (OLAC) is a service unit responsible for research and teaching animals across the University of Tennessee, Knoxville area campuses.
OLAC’s mission is to promote the highest standard of animal care, welfare, regulatory compliance, education, and training in support of the University’s research, teaching, and production programs. To achieve our mission, OLAC provides preventative health care, routine health monitoring, clinical care, and 24-hour emergency service. Non-routine veterinary services are offered on a fee for service basis. Moreover, OLAC veterinarians are available for consultation on issues related to: regulatory and standard compliance; prevention, alleviation, and minimization of animal pain and distress; animal model selection; and research design.
